Jonathan Beere erlangte 1995 den akademischen Grad des Bachelor of Arts an der Universität Chicago in den Fächern Geschichte und Philosophie der Naturwissen-schaften und 1997 den B.A. Literae Humaniores in Oxford.

Nach seiner Promotion zum PhD in Princeton (Dissertation: "The Priority of Active Being: An Interprtation of Aristotle's Metaphysics IX") lehrte Beere als Assistant Professor für Philosophie an der Universität Chicago (2004-2007) und als wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter am Lehrstuhl für Philosophie der Antike und Gegenwart der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (2007-2008).

Jonathan Beere ist seit 2009 Juniorprofessor für antike Philosophie an der Humboldt-Universität und gemeinsam mit Christoph Helmig Co-Direktor der Graduate School of Ancient Philosophy.

Neben seinen Verwaltungs- und Lehrtätigkeiten am Institut für Philosophie der Humboldt-Universität leitet Jonathan Beere gemeinsam mit Christoph Helmig die Nachwuchsgruppe "Place, Space and Motion" am Excellenzcluster Topoi.

Kürzlich veranstaltete er eine Summer School zu Platons Sophistes an der Humboldt-Universität. Er war Sachverständiger der "Oxford Studies in Ancient Philosophy" und "Classical Philology".
